Happy New Year, Minions!

Behold: 2008! A mighty splendid thing of beauty! A brand-spankin’ new unmarred, sexy little year lying there all patiently awaiting us to sully it and fuck it up.

But… for now, a fantastic page waiting to be written, that’s the year before us.
Me, I’m batting a thousand so far. The inimitable GayBoy swung by to drop off more of my favourite drug of choice, coffee (work perks at the ominous Starbucks that he throws my way). While here, he helped shove my Christmas decorations into the upper regions of my in-suite storage, and got all giddy imagining it in the future as a pantry or something of actual use. I mumbled how I’d have to go through the storage and purge.
Next thing you know, we’re “disappearing” boxes of old house paint, unused pots and pans, and taking everything out to the curb. Now it’s many hours later and my hands are diiirty as I’ve been going through all my books and (gasp) old videos and stuff, and now I have a towering heap of books to take to the used bookstore, and sexy almost organized 20-wall-feet of bookshelves (that are ceiling height). Oh, perfect! I’m just giddy about it.
And I’m exhausted, and I have a long day back to work tomorrow… but this is precisely the kind of start to my new year I needed.
A few more evenings of this, and I’ll have a completely stripped place where I finally can chill and feel happy to be. Pretty important to feel that way about one’s home.
Anyhow. Just wanted to say hi and a very happy new year to all of you. Hope you’re having similarly auspicious beginnings. Have an excellent day back on the job for all you poor suckers in a boat like mine.

Happy New Year to you too, Steff!

I’ve been reading your blog for a couple of months now, so please can I be a minion??

What a great start to the year. I’d like to “disappear” some stuff from my house too. I think I’ll try and do that tomorrow – you’ve inspired me!

Oh, you’ll always be a minion, hunny.

I also recommend looking into local charities that do free pick-up of good used household items… I donate a lot of stuff to Big Brothers & Big Sisters, who come and pick it up at my place when I just leave it outside on their local day.

Anything of decent quality I’ll be saving for them to come and grab from me. :)

Have fun purging. I can’t wait to spend a few more hours on the weekend whittling it away… so many of the things are tied to my past, and the more I’m thinking on things, the more I realize some of those ties are pretty toxic and I’m better off moving on, andd this is a very physical, real, tangible way of doing that which even has an end result: the disappearing.

Like I say, have fun. :) And don’t keep shit that makes you sad first, then whatever else hits you, eh?
