You make a really good point there, Steff! I was nodding my head in approval at the over-supply of condoms for the Antarctic folk (and now I want to know how well our NZ contingent is supplied ... wonder if it's public knowledge?) - and then shaking my head at the correlation you drew. Absintence-only ed. never worked, never will. You're bang on (ahem) - they'd be far better off teaching properly, and supplying condoms just as thoroughly :)

xx Dee

BB-- No, the scientists are smart enough to have a government that doesn't want to have legal issues on its hands and who's just looking out for themselves because they don't want sick, diseased researchers half-a-world away.

Sascha-- Yeah, and the news gets worse. Wait for my posting on the alarming new rates for teen sex that'll be up in the next day or so.

And I welcome sermonish comments. :)

Preaching to the choir here... Having been a teenager, I can personally attest to the fact that: they don't have a lot of foresight and common sense, and they are nothing but a bundle of raging hormones a great deal of the time... yet we stand on our little podiums and preach, don't fuck anyone, don't touch yourself (at least that's what the nuns told me, lol) and expect them to behave. You wouldn't expect adults to stay totally celibate, now would you? And then we wonder why so many teenagers have babies, and why so many children live below the poverty line? (20+% of Caucasions, 30% of African Americans). Sorry this turned into a sermon, but this is a hot point with Me. Good post :-) Sascha

That's a good point about condom distribution, and it highlights one of the great problems in resource distribution around the world in general.

Rarely is the problem that we don't have enough resources to care for everyone, but DISTRIBUTION and ALLOCATION seem to be the real bottlenecks.

Seems like these researchers are smart enough to bring their own condoms, while inner city youth are not even educated enough to understand the importance of using such protection, nor do they necessarily have the resources to equip themselves with condoms.

BB
