It helps your partner figure out what's going on, how well things are going, what's working, what's not, and where both people are in terms of timing, etc. I've often made the joke--which to me, and I suspect to many men, is not a joke--that both partners should use little bells during sex to signify "YES!" and "ehhh, not so much."
