Hey Steff
I was diagnosed as having ADHD week after you. Kudos for writing about it. Good luck and I hear exactly what you are saying about being overwhelmed. David's suggestion of Gabor Mate's book is correct. I wish it had more about dealing with the problems ADHD can bring but it is a good read and quite different from other books on the topic.

Hello, Steff ...
I just want to say that I am touched and awed by this piece and by your courage to disclose your experience. I don't have ADD, but I know that by speaking this out loud, you will reach others in a very profound way and perhaps make their lives a little less lonely. Not just ADD people but others who carry shame, sadness that they do not speak. Your post shows them how to have strength and dignity and power. You done good!

Dr. Gabor Mate, a Vancouver MD, has a very good book on ADD called Scattered Minds. It is a "personal look" at the condition, as he has it himself ... and he is an EXCELLENT writer. Just looked at the web site and you can read excerpts online: http://www.scatteredminds.com/ Looks like a must-read!

Also, @petequily on Twitter is a Vancouver ADD coach and has a great site on ADD.

Hope you have a great holiday in the Okanagan!

Cheers,

David Morton

I've been diagnosed with ADD, but I still don't believe it. I think I'm just lazy. Regardless, having the diagnosis gives me the right to tell you this joke:

How many kids with ADD does it take to change a light bulb?

Hey, wanna go ride bikes?

:)
